18/9: Map of the UK Puzzle Set

The Games may be over, but one of the best sets of pins we have seen (in my opinion) has been released - a puzzle/jigsaw set of the UK.

This collection of 10 pins forms the map of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with icons for each region picked out over a Union Flag design.

The individual pins, numbered 1115 to 1124, are
  • Highlands
  • Scotland
  • North East
  • North West
  • Northern Ireland
  • Wales
  • Midlands
  • East of England
  • South West
  • South East
Each pin is limited to 10,000 pieces and they are on individual cards.

I have no details of availability or stockists.

Agreed, it's a really nice pin set. It'll probably be on e-Bay tonight, and in the official online store by 2016!

How many more are to emerge chrysalis-like from the body of 2012?

bit like ceremony pis that soild out in a few hours thank you pins that just showed up as sold out. And what bright spark thought a good time to issue a new pins set is a month after the games? Must be the same bright spark that thought it was a good idea to put the cauldron in the stadium so no one could see it for the first week of the games.

I do feel that more info about these or any new pins are slow in coming out, but I would suspect that this is mainly the fault of the Guys from "HON" . Not sure what the set up was in the last few weeks, but I do feel that too much was left until the last minute to release. Maybe it was the major retailers controlling the situation too. ( or did some one forget that the Olympics started in Summer of 2012 not 2013 All I know is I am thankful that the Glam Fairy is still on the case. The original question was WHEN would the 2012 pins be on sale. Now it is a case of IF and WHEN will the final Pins go on sale!!! What about any 2012 hand over to Rio Pins..... or a Heroes Parade 2012 Pin or Pins.... Like the 2008 versions..... well as long as all the 2012 pins are released by 2016 I will be happy.

Noel: you've let the cat out the bag! I was sworn to secrecy!

Looking at the numbers, there aren't too many more to come. Anyone know what the 2013th pin is yet?

so you have to be in tight with a glam fairy i wonder if its the same fairy that smokes while packing my orders so the arrive with a puff of smoke when opened.

I did not think that this pin set was top secret. Especially regarding who had it. well at 10,000 each design these SHOULD not be hidden for long !

I think it's a fair bet that there won't be 10K of these sets clogging the shelves of retailers! In fact I don't reckon these will appear at any other retailer at all. There's no need to advertise such a limited supply as they'll sell quickly anyway.

Take the Chalk Hills set. Glam told me they had 20 sets of those, and how many other retailers ever advertised them?

Anonymous said...

Oh Lord, I thought with the games having finished, there wouldn't be any more pins to buy. My poor bank balance...

I have a chalk hill pin set that I will either trade or selling anybody is interested my email address is bradprice14@yahoo.co.uk

I'm a bit slow did not see this post ... Fab set my favourite so far... Bit of an art putting it together. Would of been nice as a box set but then again it is defo cheaper this way if the pin of the day 2012 set is anything to go by and the price they charged to box this up...

Can someone tell me who Glam Fairy (Ann) is and where I can buy the map pins from pretty please? I've just started collecting. Thanks

Ann works at www.glamorousliving.co.uk

Not seen it on eBay yet so obviously not readily available nor picnic set. Agree mike cant be 10,000 of these otherwise eBay would be swamped. Hopefully more will become available to those who want it. I know there was very limited supply when got mine. Paul looking at your inventory do you know if honav have released all the pins or are there the odd few still to come. The team GB pin your showing on home page I've not seen before was it only available at the Olympic park.

Hi!

I've collected lots of badges during the Olympics and loved it!

The only badges I would love are the Opening and Closing Olympic Ceremony pins (not days of games pins). I have a set of these Map of England pins but would willingly swap them for these pins 2 missing I was unable to buy.

Would anybody be interested in swopping with me?

I agree that orders received from GlamLiving do smell smoky when they arrive. I wasn't sure if this was tobacco smoke or not!

I'm glad someone else has noticed it. A lot of people don't smoke, don't like it, and wouldn't be particularly over the moon about this!

Hi

I would be happy to swap an Olympic Opening Ceremony and Closing ceremony pin for the Map of the UK Puzzle set. If you send me a message, we can sort it out.

TJ there is a set on eBay for £195.
This is a really nice set - coming from a largely non-retail collector that is high praise. It actually stimulated me to put my hand in my pocket :)

TJ said...

Hi wookie they've more than doubled their money then. Chuffed I've already got mine just got to work out how I'm going to display them all. Their is definitely an art to the puzzle ones. Think we should all share different ways of displaying cause I'm confuzzled at the mo. like Noel's displays boards he uses but not quite sure waiting till I've stopped buying lol. Still got few like to still get but bank balance wishes I would stop. My pins have never smelt smoky from glam and cannot praise them enough for the way my pins have always come well packaged and in perfect condition. She has always stocked all the pins and not picked and chosen what think might sell which has been fantastic for pin collectors allowing us to choose which ones we would like to buy as and when and tried her best to source out of stock pins.

Fair enough...Glam Living may not pick and choose, but inexplixably chose to mark the Opening/closing ceremony pins as 'sold out' on their website whilst having them on Ebay at the same time.
The packing is adequate, but not out of this World. The pins are simply placed (as they come) in a padded envelope. It is then a lottery if they sustain damage (however small it might be)
And they do smell 'smoky' of some kind. I think you need to get your nostrils checked! At least 2 people have noticed it, and that's just the ones that have bothered to mention it. I didn't until someone else did, and then at least I knew I wasn't imagining it. My wife noticed it too - so that's at least 3!
All that said, they have been a decent source, and I have managed to make a profit by re-selling (once I hade aired them and given them a wipe so that buyers didn't think I was smoking while packing too!)

I am a big fan of Glamorous Living and have had an excellent service from them. I also noticed the smoke issue and I mentioned it to Ann in an email. She said that nobody there smoked but that maybe it was the postman which I thought was unlikely. But it has been pointed out to them.
It is not pleasant as a non smoker to receive items that wreak of cigarette smoke. I have mentioned it to ebay sellers whose items smell and they are always amazed that people can tell that they smoke. Probably if you are a smoker, you can't smell it!

To anonymous you may have misunderstood what I meant. When I said pick and choose I was meaning they always sold complete sets never missing one or two out of a set so as a collector you were able to pick and choose what you wanted to buy or not to buy. Obviously some pins were more popular than others to people but you were still able to buy the set when first released. As a collector I found it frustrating when sets came out and certain pins from that set were not included on their website or retailer (unless unavaiable from honav or sold out to begin with) hence why my preference was glam because I personally wanted to purchase complete sets to keep and was not interested in reselling pins. We are all entitled to our opinions and all have our own preferences where we buy or brought our pins from. The games are now over and everyone is selling off pins whether it's the London 2012 shop 3 pins for £10 in markets online eBay etc so everyone's stock and avaiability is going to be as is and winding stock down like some already have. Maybe I have lost my sense of smell but I have never noticed it and dont need my nostrils checking and no I do not smoke and the packaging depends how many i may of purchased as not all have been in jiffy bags some have been boxed depending on amount of pins I may of purchased and my pins never were damaged or faulty like I had from some . But then again postage is free and not £4.95 or costed per pin like some.

I have always found that when I get pins from Glamorous Living that they smell smoky, although I have never noticed with any others. Although I am not a smoker, it doesn't bother me as the pins are fine, so it must be in the packaging. However, if Ann doesn't smoke, then it really is a puzzle as to what is causing the odour!

Anonymous said...

Chill TJ!

If you noticed, I mentioned smoky in inverted commas, as it sort of does smell like cigarette smoke, but not totally. I also considered it was the packing - but even that sounds bizarre. You can get bubble envelopes, and those strange ones that look like they are just filled with a load of grey mush. Maybe you can also get ones padded with Virginias finest?

I'm just teasing. This minor irk hasn't stopped me from making multiple purchases from GL.

We're not talking so much about damage to the pins themselves, as the cards. On the wraparound type, the butterfly clip has potential to puncture the back of the card (if enough pressure was placed on the envelope thus squeezing the pin/card).

This won't bother some people, but it does others. Some of the pins I have received have slight dents in the cards as well.

However, with the trade boxes from Honav, all the pins and cards are fine inside as there is no rubbing.

I have mailed over 200 pins, and I package them in such a way so that they PO can't damage them.

Who charges £4.95 p&p? London 2012? I have only ordered from them once, and the charges made me hesitant to again in all fairness.

But then you expect rip-offs from them.

I also noticed a smokey smell on the pins from GL. Must be the packaging if nobody at GL smokes - very strange. Glad it isn't just me, thought I was going mad!

I have all 15 day of games sport pin badges, that I will trade for an opening and closing pin badge email address bradprice14@yahoo.co.uk

Anonymous said...

Hi brad are you meaning the pin of the day sport pins thought there were 18 pins in this set not 15.

Anonymous said...

Yes I have the 16 sports, just not the opening or closing, I still think it would be a good trade though, 16 badges for 2. What do you think. If you contact me via email we could sort something out. I could include the set of games maker pin badges and the boxed relay baton as well as 16 day of game badges.

One of the UK map pin sets on ebay just went for £265 - someone is making a nice tidy profit on these.

If there's 10,000 of each, surely there must be some more of them out there somewhere, and that £265 is going to seem very expensive.

If there's far fewer that £265 may seem like quite an investment!
