Just for completeness, heres an image of the British House pin mentioned in a previous blog post

The pin measures 28mm x 23mm and is not backstamped.

There are a few of these available retail from Great British Collectables

3/8 - I AM TEAM GB Pins - Camelot/ITV

As I mentioned in an earlier post, a second 'I AM TEAM GB' pin issued by the National Lottery (Camelot) does exist.

The pin on the left is backstamped IAM001 but the one on the right is not backstamped at all.
The first pin measures 28mmx24mm and the second pin 27mm x 18mm.

Thes epiks are not available for retail customers and I have no information on the issue size.

3/8 - More Team GB Pride Sports Poses

Another 7 pins have been released which show Team GB's mascot, Pride the Lion in a series of sports poses. These pins use the drawings first seen at London 2012 in the round pin format.

27/7: Team GB Pins - Sponsor and British House

News today of some non-retail pins that are being issued in connection with Team GB and Rio 2016.

The first is a sponsor pin from Camelot / ITV and features both company logos together with the Team GB logo and the slogan 'I AM TEAM GB'

I have no details on pin reference or size as yet, but there are only 200 of these in circulation

A second Camelot / ITV pin is also due out, and there will be 1,000 of these. More details soon I hope.

-o-

The other pin announced today is the 'British House' pin. This pin is only available to delegates, athletes and guests who visit the Team GB British House in Rio. There are 4,200 of these in circulation and 200 of them will be available for retail but are not part of the Team GB retail series. This pins are sure to be popular with collectors due to their rarity.

I do not have a pin image but the design is shown below.

23/3: New Team GB Pins 'RIO' and 100 DTG

Two news pins have been released by Team GB in the run up to Rio 2016.

The first is a brilliant design combining the medal colours to form the word 'RIO'. In my opinion one of the simplest yet effective designs we've seen.

TS004 - Bronze, Silver, Gold - RIO
This pin is limited to 1,000 pieces and available now.

The other new release is a 100 day to go pin.

TS007 - 100 Days to Go

This pin is a gold coloured pin with the Team GB logo in relief rather than coloured. It combines distinctive elements of the Rio skyline namely Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain together with the 100 DAYS TO GO caption, the date and the Team GB logo.

This pin will be available soon but can be preordered. It is limited to only 500 pieces.

You can find these pins at;

26/10: New Pride the Lion Team GB Pin Announced

The next in the series of official Team GB pins leading up to Rio 216 has been announced.

This time, Pride the Lion is driving a Christmas sleigh being pulled by Rudolph.

A picture of the artwork is available and the pin will be approximately 48mm x 40mm, so a fairly large pin this time.

Circulation is limited to 500 like the first pin and no word on pricing at the moment.

I imagine that this pin will be available from the same retailers as the first pin. More details as soon as I have them.

21/10: New Team GB Pin Update

Here are a couple more details about the new Team GB pin launched last week.

TS001 on card
The pin is mounted on a white card with Union flag detailing. The card and in are enclosed in a clear cellophane wrapper to prevent damage to the pin.

The pin is approximately 32mm x 10mm and the card 55mm x 85mm.

The pin is marked on the back: Circulation = 500 TS001.

The back of the card is also printed with 'Limited circulation of 500 pieces'

18/10: New Team GB Pin

As Team GB prepare for Rio in 2016, the first in a new range of official Team GB supporter pins has been released.

TS001 - Believe in Extraordinary

The pin is numbered TS0001 and combines the Team GB logo and Olympic rings with the wording 'Believe In Extraordinary'.

I understand there will be a number of official Team GB supporter pins produced in the run up to the next summer Olympic Games.

This first pin is limited to 500 copies and over 50% have already been sold, so it seems likely that this first pin will sell out and be one of the harder ones to pick up nearer Games time.

It is available from
If you order from any of these sites, please tell them you read about the pin on London Pins - thanks.

The next Team GB pin is planned to be a Pride the Lion Christmas pin with more designs to follow in 2016.

1/6: New pins discovered

Updated: 8/6 - correction and supplementary details to Indian language pins.

Even 2 years after the Olympic and Paralympic Games, there are still some pins only now coming to light.

New BA Pin Version
An alternate version of the BA Language pin for India has been discovered.

BA0005 (India) - Hindi (Top) and Punjabi (Bottom) versions

The original issued in 2012 was in Hindi (the text reads 'Namstey' - a Hindu greeting) and the new version is in Punjabi (the text reads 'Sat Sri Akal' - a Sikh greeting). At the time of its release, I was told that there were 100 of the original pins. The new pin has turned up on eBay and the seller states that there were only 20 of the later version made.

The new version has been added to the BA page on the catalogue

Two Prototypes
At the pin meet in April, collectors shared two pins we believe to be prototypes that never went into production.

A pin from Cisco stamped on the back as CIS0001. The actual CIS001 used a similar white design but on a shard shape background. This is a Honav pin.

12/2: Team GB Sochi Pin - Official Team Pin

Thanks to a reader 'in the know', I can now share details of the official team pin given to Sochi athletes. Visually, it's almost identical to the retail one mentioned in the previous blog post.

Internal Team GB Pin

Retail Team GB Pin

The main difference between them is the internal pin does not have the excess metal around the rings and 'Sochi 2014'. The rear of the internal pin is marked 'Better Never Stops' just like the London 2012 internal pins issued to the athletes. The internal pin is also a gold colour. I have no information on the manufacturer of either version or issue sizes of each pin.

Many thanks to the reader who got in touch with the details and the image.

UPDATE: The retail pins available from the Team GB shop have the back stamp 'Better Never Stops' and not GBPINS14 as first thought.

9/2: Team GB Pin for Sochi 2014

For those of you London 2012 collectors who, like me, also collect Team GB pins, you may be interested to know that a new retail pin to support our team in Sochi has just been released.

Image reproduced from Team GB shop website

The pin is available from the Team GB shop (click here for the link) for £5. Whilst it is a retail pin, the style looks identical to the internal pin TGB0004 issued for London 2012. Presumably, the athletes in Sochi have a different design as their 'team pin'.

As far as I know this pin is only available in the gold colour with no silver variety as we saw in London 2012.

The back of this pin is marked GBBPINS14 I believe - the same as the product code shown on the shop website.

24/1: Prototype BBC Gold Pin?

A reader has contacted me about a prototype gold pin made by Aminco for the BBC. He was given them during the Games by a BBC employee. He was told they were made for approval but that the eventual pins were made by another manufacturer.

Photo (c) 007bond.jamesbond

The photograph shows the gold prototype alongside a standard white BBC pin for comparison.

Does anyone have any more information about this pin or any confirmation of its authenticity?

14/5 - Poster Pins Set

At the recent London 2012 sale and auction in Coventry, one reader managed to pick up a set that was never released even though the pins form part of the 2,012 designs that were initially planned.

Pins 705 - 731

The pins are a set of IOC posters from previous Summer Olympic Games from 1896 - 2008. The pins are numbered 705-731 and are the same posters as pins 732 - 758.

The slight differences are that...

  • the new pins are 22mm x 30mm and therefore a little smaller than the original pins (25mm x 35mm)
  • they were only available (or not available as it turned out) as a framed set in an IOC Olympic Museum branded box (see image below
  • The Mexico 1968 and Los Angeles 1984 designs are slightly different (images below)

21/4: Latest Pin Meet Report

We held our latest pin meet yesterday, and I'm pleased to say that despite the long gap since our last get-together, the enthusiasm (and attendance) was as strong as ever.

There were lots of regular faces but also a large number of new collectors that had caught the bug during the Games and decided to try out a pin meet.

From the feedback I received, it seems that there were a number of very successful trades made with all of us managing to fill gaps in our collections.

A lot of the conversations centred around pins that were not seen during the Games, prices on eBay and how to display collections as well as thoughts towards Sochi and Rio.

Someone from EDF came along and was trading a pin none of us had seen before. It combined the EDF logo with the tagline 'We helped London 2012 shine brighter'.  Whilst it did not contain the London 2012 logo it did use the typeface. There are no back markings on the pin.

Thoughts turned to the nect pin meet and the plans are still to gather in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (the permanent name for the redeveloped Olympic Park) on Saturday 27th July - the anniversary of the Opening Ceremony. Plans are in their early stages at the moment, but will depend on the access available on the day and the number of collectors who plan to attend the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games in the stadium that day. Keep reading the blog as I'll post more details when they are confirmed.

Finally, on a personal note, I'd like to thank everyone there yesterday who were part of my gift. I was really touched by the thoughts and sentiments expressed and appreciate your kind words.

23/2: New ODA Pins

Ok, so we thought the Games were over, the ODA wrapped up and all those internal pins had been seen. How wrong we were!

Thanks to a reader, 2 more ODA pins have been discovered. These ones were issued by the facilities management team and come in Olympic and Paralympic versions.
ODA0035

ODA0036

Each pin features a saw, plunger, a screwdriver and a hammer in a tool box along with a Games logo. These pins were issued in December 2012 and I have no details on how many of each were issued at present.

1/10: More Venue Pins at Glamorous Living

It seems that more of the elusive venue collection pins have appeared at Glamorous Living today. Thanks to a reader, news that some Gymnastics sports poses pins are now on sale.

The 5 pins in question were not widely available during the Games but have now appeared on the Glamorous Living website.

I would imagine that there will not be many of these sets available as the pins were limited to 2,012 each and potentially SOME were sold during the Olympics.
