LOCOG Pins in 2007?

As you know I've emailed London 2012 a few times via their website asking for information. Over the last 2 days, I have had replies to my emails (looks like they got bunched up and answered by different people over the course of 2 days).

Anyway, the replies give the standard response that an online store will be open soon and that pins are available from Crest of London and Runners Needs.

BUT...

2 of the replies mention something along the lines of... ' the pins were made for staff only and to mark the brand launch on 4 June 2007'

Now I thought the first logo pins (in fact any non-bid pins) were not available until the Handover Party last August. So if that's the case, what are the pins made for LOCOG staff back in 2007?

Am I wrong? Were pins available before August 2008? Have I missed something?

What do you think?

They made some pins on their own before their pin people came on board I think.

I saw some logo pins out there before the handover ceremony. If I remember rightly, they didn't have holes between the numbers.

They wouldnt be the official pins though. They wouldn't have a serial number if the first numbers were the new logo pins.

Yes - pins were available for LOCOG from the brand launch - you can see it in photos on the internet. They were only made available publically back in June 2008

For absolute certain, the four coloured pins discussed here were issued for the first time on 4th June 2007, at the London 2012 Re-Branding event, held at the Roundhouse, in Camden, London. The BBC web-site has details of the event (search for - London unveils logo of 2012 Games).

There were two sessions held on the day, with guest speakers such as Sebastian Coe, Ade Adepitan, Jose Mourinho, Denise Lewis, and a few others. As people left each session, they were given one of the brand new logo pins at the exit.

As you have described (the mini pins), the four 2007 coloured pins have the holes filled in with a frost-effect silvered metal. Later that year, a similar Paralympic pin was also issued, so your pin UNF0002 could well be the real thing.

The five pins were handed out to LOCOG and ODA staff in small numbers up to the end of 2007, and maybe into early 2008. Then, when these ran out, what I have assumed to be prototypes of your pins 0001 to 0004 were issued. Even if they weren't trial versions, they were certainly not on the hologram backing card (there was no serial number), as they were simply issued in small plastic bags. Later on, the Paralympic (0005) and Union Flag (0011) pins were also given out, but by then these were recognised as official pins, as they were mounted on card with the holograms and serial numbers.

I can let you have some pictures of my 2007 pins, if you wish?
